The social rented sector is not immune to the changes from the Renting Homes (Wales) Act 2016. Whilst the security of tenure for many social tenants will remain broadly the same, there are some key changes which will have a significant impact. It is essential that anyone supporting people who live in the social rented sector knows how and when the new Act will begin to change the renting experience for the people they support.
Using the Welsh Government’s model contract as a reference throughout the day, this course will develop understanding, knowledge and familiarity with secure contracts to ensure that you and your team are ready to support occupiers in the social sector when the changes are in force.
This course will cover:
• Main provisions of all contracts (what must contracts include, how should contracts be issued)
• Main features of a Secure Contract (protection from eviction, varying terms, succession rights)
• Joint contracts (rights to add new contract holder, ending joint contracts)
• Fitness for human habitation
• Supported housing (temporary exclusions, mobility, protection from eviction)
• Prohibited conduct (ASB, prohibited conduct standard contract)
• Ending contracts (how contract holders and landlords can end contracts)
• Succession
• Abandonment
This course is essential for:
Anyone supporting or advising occupiers in the social rented sector. Housing association staff, council housing teams, housing options teams, support workers, and advice agencies.
