People renting in the private sector have vastly different rights and protections under the Renting Homes (Wales) Act 2016.
This course will provide an essential practical guide to renting in the PRS now that this piece of legislation is in force. Underpinned by the law, this course will guide learners through the main differences in the new regime and will provide practical tips on navigating the legislation and supporting occupiers to understand and enforce their rights.

Course Includes:
• Which types of agreement are included in RHWA
• Getting a written contract and agreeing terms
• Adding or removing contract holders
• Fitness for human habitation requirements
• ASB, Domestic Abuse and other prohibited conduct
• Notice requirements from landlords
• Challenging possession on abandonment

This course is essential for:
Anyone involved in assisting or supporting tenants in the private rented sector, local authority housing options staff, housing association staff, housing officers, support workers, advice workers.

Pre-course requirements:
Even though this course is set at an introductory level, it is recommended that learners have completed Shelter Cymru’s Level 1 course ‘Introducing the Renting Homes (Wales) Act’.
