PRESSURE POINTS – POVERTY

The causes of poverty are every bit as complex as those that cause homelessness but there is no doubt that not having enough money to pay for your home is something that could happen to anyone. Forces beyond our control can reduce, limit and eat away at the money we have to spend on our living costs. Homes have become unaffordable, the supply is smaller than the demand and world events can impact on whether or not a person can work to earn money to pay the extortionate rises in rents and mortgages. Even the safety net of the benefits system, particularly local housing allowance, has not risen to the challenge of meeting the needs of those who fall into difficulty.
